    Which Lower/gear to use?

So I want to have a lower unit coned to run on the Viper I'm re-coring for next season. I currently have three to choose from, small bullet off an XR6 (1.78), a 1647-9147-C (1.87), and a 1647-9147-C1 (2.00) and pretty sure they all ratchet. I read on here Texas suggests the C1 is the best fishing case to cone but what are the pros and cons of the different gear ratios?....Thanks.

Stock XR6 is not as durable for long river runs. Drag racing they are good if shimmed correctly, but not very many have success putting lots of hours river running on them. The 9147C and C1 cases are both big bearing and good cases. C1 has zincs on the sides. I would go with the 1.87 ratio cause props will be more readily available (lower pitch)

I though they were all big bearings, or at least they are all non preload pin lowers correct? Some ratchet, some do not that I have found.

i went from a 2:1 to a 1.87 on my vector with a carbed motor and gained around 9mph with plenty room to play with. IMO i'd stay away from 2:1 unless you're drag racing. also like 25 said, the xr6 cases are not as durable for river running.

i also went from a 2 hole cle (2:1) to a bobs coned 200 case with the double hoses. Water pressure may have been a factor because my motor is also a solid 1/2" higher with the new case. so i cant attribute it all to gear ratio

Have it done by RONNIE on here. Might have to get him on Facebook, doesn't come over here much anymore. His work is top of the heap.
