    2013 300XS sudden loss of power/rpm

I have a 2013 300XS with approx 80 hours on it. A couple weeks ago I took it up river - sat there most of the day- came home at the end of the day- I have to slow to go under a bridge - when I went to hit it after the bridge it didnt have enough rpm to get on plane. I took it to the local marina - they said it needed new plugs- had them install new plugs- got it back and they said to run fuel injector cleaner through it. I added the merc cleaner and ran it - there was no change from when i took it in to them in the first place. Now they say its the injectors?? I feel they are just throwing parts at it. It will not turn over 4500 rpm right now. any help would be appreciated. thnx

Not being a wise a$$ but you might need to find a new mechanic. Any decent mechanic will do a complete diagnostic check on the motor. This includes a compression test, fuel pressure test, air pressure test, (your motor has a compressor) etc. Then he'll use his scan tool to check for codes and do a cylinder drop test where he can drop one cylinder at a time via the coil, injector. Make sure your guy has the right tools to diagnose the problem. if he doesn't find someone who does. Good Luck and let us know the outcome.

That is my feelings exactly. I talked with a friend who has a twin outboard tunnel and he recommended a different shop. I am taking it there tomorrow. I will let everyone know how this turns out.

    Do these first:
    - Fuel / Air Pressure
    - Compression

While youve got the plugs out inspect them, could tell you whats going on, is the issue on all cylinders, or just 1 or 2 etc. Should start to help you narrow it down. TPS could be another thing to look at. Injectors - but usually you would have an idle issue as well.

EDIT: Not that looking at the injectors might not be a good idea anyhow, but I doubt unless you have a complete failiure that this would be your issue in this case.

So I took my boat to a second shop - they diagnosed it as a broken reed valve within one hour. I had all the reed valves replaced along with the plugs for a second time and all fuel filters [as long as it was in there]. Took it out for a rip the other night and I am happy to say it is all better! Kinda pricey little fu-kers- $4k all said and done. Motor is a 2013 but only 80 hours on it? Kinda seems like a short life for reed valves? I have had the boat for sale and wouldn't you know it- a guy wanted to come look at it when all this happened. I told him everything as it happened - now that its all fixed- his wife put the kabosh on the purchase- lol - anyone heard that before? lol, oh well.

In the future there are aftermarket reeds that are real good and cost a lot less. Chris Carson is one I like. But, it’s fixed and running good. That engine will sell easy.
