    260 Flywheel Questions

I've searched, but the results have come up a bit foggy still.

I picked up a 260 lighter weight flywheel and am wanting to convert from 40amp. I currently just have the flywheel, so is it just the stator and regulator setup that need to be changed to make all this work? I run zero electronics, so I am not worried about less amperage.

just need the 16 amp stator to swap out. Then just need to get the regulator and rectifier figured out, if you even need it. Are you running the pulse pump or electric pump? What kind of battery (AGM or led acid)?

Lead acid battery, carb motor and basically just gauges for electronics. Very minimal stuff

Just get a stator and a rectifier. Throw out your voltage regulators.

I would suggest running a regulator but not completely needed with a lead acid as that battery can gas off when overcharged. AGM batteries get damaged from overcharging and must have a regulator in my opinion.

Will a 16 amp stator even charge can AGM battery? CDI says lead acid only.

yes, but it may overcharge with a carb motor and no other electrics going and may damage the AGM battery. I think that is why CDI says that as they don't want to be pegged with damaging batteries with their products.

    here it is.

Im battling one now that wont charge with agm battery. Have tested everything and tried new stator and rectifier. Only thing left is flywheel or battery. Next step is lead acid battery.

When the motor is running see if you have charging voltage at the battery. I am guessing you AGM battery wont take the charge, not the charging components are bad on the engine.

You just need a 16A stator to make it work.
I ran a 40A system with the dual rectifier/regulators and have used one of those for the 16A system.

Appreciate the helps guys. Does anyone have the proper part number for a 16amp stator? I've found so many, and I'd hate to get the wrong one.

CDI Electronics is # 5456 for the 9 amp and 5456-16 for the 16 amp.

I'm still tossing this idea around in my head..

What about just going with the red 40 amp flexplate style flywheel, its just slightly lighter. They also seem to be a bit more readily available.
