    I skied the trifecta yesterday

I expected to ski a ton this year as I am living on the lake full time and I'm retired. Lake Coochiching had other plans and we've had a lot of wind. On Sunday morning it was calm, and I got the trifecta - trick ski, slalom ski, and disk.

On one hand, it would be cool to try bare footing. But I would hate to get hurt and miss out on fun. The water temperature is around 67F. Cool enough that it takes me hours to warm up after a one mile swim

Barefoot is pretty aggressive at retirement age -

If you have access to a boom, it's pretty risk free. Longline, well, that's another story. Do you guys have a slalom course? My portable was one of the best purchases I ever made. That cool water keeps the joints young, eh?

We do have a boom. Maybe if my brother buys a barefoot suit I will try it.

That would make me throw up for sure.

Barefooting on a boom is WAY easier than longline. Don't be afraid to try it but using a barefoot suit or wetsuit is recommended. I learned to barefoot at 11 and still go out from time to time, but not that often anymore. My older brother on the other hand is 77 and barefoots and slaloms weekly. He did his specialty last Saturday - jumped out of 2 skis and landed it perfectly. Have not seen many 77 year olds do that. Being skinny as a rake and having barefooted for 60 years helps. His perfect speed is 31. Both older brothers taught water skiing in the summer for a few years so we have all the water ski stuff and now my kids are getting into wake foiling for something different. Endless ways to have fun on the water !

Get a ski scat they are a blast! Started skiing very young and teaching my grandkids soon. Worked a ski show as a teen where we skied holding a rope attached to a boom. Did circles for hours doing tricks jumps etc. easy money and fun! Tourists loved it....

Boat seems to track well at slow speed for riding the disk. I rode one back in the 70s now in my 60s I prefer the sky ski easy to get up on once you figure it out and very little work to ride it ,can ride it for a hour and never get tired. as for the barefooting the boom is the way to go you can Sit on a knee board to get started then no need for wetsuit

Been a few years since I skied the course John, but our lake's sunrise ski club still carves it up pretty good. 15 off is my shortest rope now a days. Never used a boom.
Yeah while enjoying my fall slalom skiing I didn't close my eyes while hitting the water

I experienced temporary blindness that scared me.

I did a few faceplants while shoe skiing a couple of times many years ago (that hurt!), but never barefooting. Mid to high 20's vs low to mid 30's mph. I learned to tuck and roll when I first learned to barefoot and that has served me well for 57 years. Mid to high 20's is too slow to tuck and roll.

No but ever since Jim saw Banana George many years ago and then saw that BG continued to barefoot into his 80's, I think my brother set that as a goal and so far so good.
