Wiring bobs trim pump for a promax?
I used to having a mercury racing trim pump but it failed and I had to replace it. The mercury racing pump had 2 cables that went to the battery and connected to the positive and ground. There were 2 more wires which were blue and green and those both went to the outboard and connected into the harness there.
On the bobs trim pump it has the 2 cables that go to the battery to connect to the positive and negative. It also has the blue and green wire but it also has a red wire. All 3 of the green, blue and red wires are together from bobs. I believe these 3 wires all connect to individual solenoids on the trim pump.
My problem is I don’t know where this red wire goes? The old pump didn’t have this so I can’t reference it. As of right now I have all the wires connected except that red wire and the pump works fine. The trim button on the outboard, the shifter and the blinker trim all work.
I would like to do something with this red wire but don’t know what and I don’t want to hook it up to something and end up frying a switch box or something.
If anyone has any experience with this let me know.

This is the wiring for Bob's plate... red, blue, green to trim switch and another blue & green to the pump?

Sounds like the original merc pump used relays and the bobs uses soleoids. On a 2 wire pump the blue and green connect to the red and black to operate and reverse for opposite rotation. A 3 wire pump share the ground and use either blue or green to positive operate pump. 2 wire uses relays. 3 wire uses solenoids.

I would assume that the red wire in question would be used if I didn’t have the other wire which directly connects the positive terminal of the battery to the trim pump. I’m guessing if I didn’t have that direct connection between the two, I would have to take that little red wire and feed it into the outboard and splice it in somewhere.
The green and blue are already connected and so are both the terminals and everything works.
Thoughts on this?Last edited by simpson_3; 07-01-2022 at 03:33 PM.

The small red with the inline fuse is there to power the switch. If switch has power from somewhere else it will not be needed.
