I have for a long time suggested to my customers to use Mercury Quick Care every time you add fuel. It is cleaner and stabilizer in one mix. 1 Oz per 10 gallons. I use it in religiously every time I add fuel. I believe keeping it clean is better then trying to get t clean.

I buy gas wherever and never add anything but cheap Pennzoil XLF that I buy in bulk. I usually don’t leave fuel in anything over the winter but sometimes I do. Never any problems…

I run XLF too. I did have a problem with Houston gas trying to turn on me at 9 weeks or so.

Boats that sit a month or more between use will absolutely appreciate caring about fuel. If your adding fresh fuel and burning through it regularly you can get away with less attention. Seems like more often then not a new customer came in with a new to him boat or a boat that doesn't get used much it has a fuel issue. Fuel issues unattended to turn into engine issues.
I can't tell you how many times I heard, "My boat ran great since I had it, never had to do anything to it."Jim

I use Sea Foam and/or Star Tron. Both seem to work great for all my 2 strokes. I also always add fuel stabilizer (Marine Sta Bil) to every tank.

I was using Mercury Quickleen and Quickstor but switched to Chevron Techron Marine fuel
system care as it’s both together, one bottle and done.

Customers at the shop where I work love quickleen and all 3 of mercury fuel stabilizers/additives. But...I don't know how intelligent they are. LOL
I use nothing and never have had a problem in my motors 25 hp to 280 hp fourstorke mpi engines, carb 2stroke carb 4stroke, efi 2stroke.
The only engine I ever had hella trouble with was my carb 90 fourstroke which no matter how many inline filters and brand new gasz it would always gum carbs. But everything else if you keep your gas tank clean and start it up every month or so you will be good with nothin but gas and/ornot oil8' Yellow Jacket - 25 hp Mariner

Cali kid is right. Seen more problems with adding too much than not using at all. Especially opti’s. Fresh fuel is the only cleaner I use.

My mechanic (RIP… died racing at the Parker Enduro), swore by a cocktail of Techron and Startron, both used as directed, not more. I use that same mix. BUT I’m more doing it on the faith of his good word. I have no idea whether it’s any better than just fresh gas.
Is regular automotive Techron hard on plastic parts like floats and rubber fuel lines?
Somebody here once said that Seafoam is mostly alcohol. And that with the 10% ethanol in today’s gas, that is like running Seafaom anyway. Swears by how clean his motors are. Makes sense. But again, I have not done anything myself to verify.
So fuel additives (other than stabilizers to keep it from turning to varnish), remain a mystery to me. I kind of sort of use them “just in case” they actually work.

I am pretty sure that Sea foam is not heavily alcohol-based. Take a sniff of it and you will know that it is absolutely based on petroleum distillates.
