    I loved those things!

I still remember my first ride in a hydro w/one.

Had been racing A stock hydro for yrs, which was 15 cu in Mk 15s/KG-4s.
Would run low 50’s on the straights, which was a blast in a 90 lb hull that you were flying!

    No punch though.
I always flew mine around the outside of the turns to keep the Rs/speeds up.

I raced a buddies B stock hydro w/a 20H on it and I remember coming out of the first turn and it accelerated hard enough that it slid me back on the floor board!

Got out and said, gotta get me one of these!

Ended up buying all of his equipment including his Butts Aerowing Hydro which was very fast!
I remember seeing 68 on his Keller meter when the kilo record was 72.

Wanted to go to Yelm Washington for the kilo runs but didn’t have the $$

The 20Hs had enough compression too that you had to know how to start one or it’d hurt you.

Had three for a while and planned on building a tunnel for twins but never did.

I remember selling the last one (20 yrs ago) for what I paid for the whole collection!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

My father brought home a Mk20 when I was 15, soon found an 8' 3 point hydro locally. Boy the learning curve really was steep.
Talk about a moody starting motor, Timing was set with a metal arm that one would simply move. If you had it right for starting it would not dissociate your elbow. Mine still is 50+ years later.
The hull I bought I think was from the Glen L plans, well made. I bought a CW throttle, think I still have it.
Took allot to try to find a decent way to not get injured kneeling running at speed over chop, I have an appointment today with a new to area surgeon for knee replacement.
Running the boat was a hoot, the turn fin was not deep enough, 2 or 3" if I recall but when you really aired the hull out running into the breeze I was running on the prop alone.
I made a deeper fin, much better.

One outing, we found a sheltered small lake in Newington CT, Small sandy beach for a putin and no houses. One afternoon we saw a car stopped on the gravel road on the far side, When my friend brought the boat in the car came around, a local officer, real curious. He showed us the display on his radar, 62, dang.
I figured it was time to try racing, drove down to Danbury CT area to look at what racing really was. Well they were running what looked like 12' hulls. My motor had an SU carb on it and I questioned in the ports were in spec.
Years later the motor sold, the sun and weather got to the hull, I was in fiberglass production boats from then on. Was racing cars and building airplanes as I still am today.
    Regards,
    Charlie North
