    Drilling vent holes

I have a 26 scorpion prop that has the small pilot holes for vent holes. The mod range and top end is good bit hole shot obviously is HORRIBLE.

I want to drill it out. Should I cough up the money and send it to a propshop or machine shop or just go to it with my drill press and bits? I'm guessing 5/8 holes will be needed.

go for it should be easy be careful as when opening up a hole the bit will grab so be careful might leave the bit so it can slip if it grabs

I have done several, small 50hp up to V6. All with a cordless drill. No issues and helped holeshot alot. Once you get holes large enough to get 3K+ rpm on throttle hit, makes a big difference.

The dewalt step drills are stainless rated and make nice holes. I dont think id be stuffing a twist drill in there if it were mine

Come to think of it, step drills dont make for easy work on radius’s as the diameter of the hole gets bigger, the bit will lose contact on the radius of the props barrel. Something to keep in mind.

Chaz is 100% correct, cant beat a mill for this
