    Charger STV Prop Recommendations

Boat is getting extremely close to being finished, not sure what to run for prop.

1989 charger stv with a 3.0L OMC 225+ (light porting and some other bits) in an e-tec cowl.

has an 8" hydro jackplate with about 6" of setback, lowerend has a bobs kit.

I am going to start out with a loaner from the guy who is building me the motor, its a worked over 27p scorpion.

goal for the boat is a all around fun lake boat.

going to spend an afternoon at a local prop shop once it's in the water and try a bunch, but looking to see if anyone has any recommendations

best prop and setup for mine was a mercury 30pitch chopper with the propshaft 1in above the pad and a manual 6in manual jack.

    6800rpm at 92.5mph with a 225 promax and a coned CLE case

the boat had a full interior, gauges and small sound system.

What made you decide to go Chopper? Everyone I have talked to says I will want either a Cleaver or a ET. I will definitely try a chopper if the shop has one, but it wasn't on my list, I figured it would be to much bow lift?

    I run a Signature 14 5/8"× 28p 4 blade CLEAVER at +2 1/4" on a 6" plate, with a 150 supermag at 77+mph, on 1984 ltv.
I have a few 26p-28p choppers, and 26p yamaha drag 3 that I tried, and a bunch of others I haven't tried. Seamed way more settled with a cleaver than chopper, and 3 mph faster. 6 or 7mph faster than Yamaha drag. A signature eagle 4 might work for Charger, if it's heavier than a ltv? I doubt you would need it vs. a cleaver with 225hp, these hulls pack alot of air above 70mph.

i only tried one cleaver. a 28 with 15in of diameter. not enough bow lift and i used alot of trim. my boat wasnt a lightweight. it liked the bow lift and the 30 chopper has alot of rake also compared to a smaller one. maybe i could of been faster with the right cleaver but with 2 people in the boat, a cooler, anchor and beach goodies the chopper ran best. those boats are super weight sensetive. i lost around 6mph on top with my 115lbs girlfriend in the front passenger seat.

I was running just under 90 on this pic, and made it a bit over 90 at the end of the run

I hear ya, mista_max. My boat also lays right down with 2 people in it. A chopper, although probably not any faster, was more fun with a passenger in my ltv.

mistah_max, was your chopper a big ear or a small ear? I just had a 30p small ear fall into my lap and I'm wondering if its worth running I'd have to either cut the splines or press a new hub into it to run on my OMC. wondering if it would be worth it or not.

If it bolted straight on sure, but id think twice about putting money into it. High risk of cracking the small ear with your power and weight. Lots of broken ones out there, i have one way less power then you too

it was a small ear. i also tried a 32 big ear chopper and that was to much pitch and it gave me to much lift.
