Ok Jim.... I looked at a quick view of backyard video. Looks pretty simple to me. Now I see how it works. My question is.... When I remove the outdrive - If the crank still does NOT turn over, then the motor itself is locked up I assume?

Just one LAST question please? Then I'll remove the unit next week. What is the reason for putting it in forward gear before removal? Does it lock or release something in place etc...
Thank you Jim....

Your pic shows its an Alpha 1 gen 1 drive. It does not have the speedo connection like the gen 2. However both units must be in forward to remove and install drive. {The complete unit top and bottom} The shift linkage dictate that. If its not in forward it is essentially locked on and if you force it damage to linkage is done. It is helpful to arrange the trailer in such a way the drive can go all the way down with out hitting the ground. Once trim cylinders and 6 bellhousing nuts are removed it may be necessary to lift and drop unit to break seal. If its rusted and u joints stuck bent persuasion may be necessary.

Ls swap if your feeling cheap dump a stock 6.0L in there from a truck and wire it yourself. If your feeling a little more spendy stick a cheap elgin cam and maybe go for the msd controller/carb intake with a 600 holley. That would take a day to prep the motor and a day or three to stab in there.
or just change the oil, make sure the fuel supply is clean, fill the carb with gas through the vent tube and fire it up, if she no bang and clang? Ehhh might be ok. Those motas dont spin that nice by hand that wouldnt bother me. Spray some pb blaster in the spark plug holes and let soak for a few days before trying to start itHydrostream dreamin
