Lost another boat racer and good guy.
Rod Zapt "capneez" on S&F left us on May 7.
Rod won his last boat race at the age of 80 running a leg of the 2017 Parker Enduro in Div II with his son in-law. I first met Rod when I joined the COR group and raced sprint boats with him in 2013.
Rod was always very helpful in making sure our boats where setup safe and kept our group together.
Rod was involved in boat racing back in the 50's.
He also flew planes off Navy carriers for 10 years starting in 1961. The Antietam, Lexington, Randolph and the Intrepid (which is now in a museum in New York).
After his service to our country was complete I believe he started flying commercial planes for Pam Am and others.
Rod and Ron Hill I believe played a big part in bringing back outboards to the Parker Enduro after the Mod-vp days.
I will truly miss his after race banter.
Rod with his granddaughter and son in-law after winning the 2017 Parker Enduro.

The one thing nice about having Ross (behind the podium) as Commodore, is he makes everyone else look tall.
