    Just bought a 1978 Checkmate with a 1977 115 hp Evinrude

    First post.
I just picked up this little Checkmate with an old Evinrude. I have a ton of questions:

Where can i get information on these old motors?
    common Problems?
things to watch out for etc etc.
Where can you buy parts for this motor are there specialty vendors / junkyards
Are the hoods covers the same for Johnson and Evinrude? They look the same.
    are other parts interchangeable

Thanks in advance for any tips.

    Kevin

You need to post pictures of your motor, with the cover/cowl on and off, and the guys on here will tell you everything you want to know. As far as parts, new parts can be found for just about every motor at MarineEngine.com or other places. Guys on this website also likely have used parts that you may need. However, can’t provide any advice or assistance without first knowing what you’ve got…so post pics and you will be on your way!

serial number on the motor identifies it as a 1977 115hp. I can’t post pics.
