XR6 vs 2.5 200 vs 2.4 200
What are your thoughts on these engines? I have heard the xr6 may make closer to 165. All sound like reliable engines. The 2.5 seems to have more parts available nowadays. I have a line on a nice xr6 but am wondering if waiting for a 2.5 200 will be that much better. The 2.5 200 seems harder to come by

With the price of gas, I am glad to have an Optimax. But if the choice is 200 later or XR6 now, I would wait for a nice 200. More power is better. Even if it’s less then 50 more ponies.

2.4 200 was a stout motor but really out dated..
XR6 (take hear say hp ratings with a grain a salt) is a pretty stout 2.5 but falls a little short when compared to tha 200... if can be bought for right price might be a choice till you run across a good 200.. jus keep in mind that any 2000 and newer 2.5 is gonna be an "electronic" motor with factory limitations that really can't be changed...but most can be changed ta tha "switch box" type 'lectrics if ya lookin' for a hot rod......... jmo.Last edited by tlwjkw; 05-06-2022 at 03:21 AM.

I have hear that the newer efi engines weight more than the carbed ones and in my application i am pushing it with the 2.5. This guy wants 4200 for the xr6 with controls and everything. Seems steep but with the world the way it is now who knows.. worth the price? the xr6 should get my predictor in the low 70s when the project is done. 200hp should push it to 80

I did this about 4'years ago. Went from a 150 to a 200. Glad I did it. The boat went from mild to wild!
