    Delrosa probably used steel screws for a number of reasons:
    Cost (compared to stainless, brass and bronze)
    If you were to drive 800 fasteners with an electric drill (for the period) brass would have been too soft and bronze too brittle.
    I'm assuming that the heads were all phillips? If they were slotted, it's a miracle you are getting them out at all!
    I don't think allen drive was available until the late 80s?
