Pretty cool stuff forkin. Never thought much about the rotors being affected by loss of lift or air disturbances. Ridden many hours in copters, did notice the pilots were always concerned with very smooth operation of the controls and the wind conditions. Now I know why.

Ever hear of ground resonance???? I think they want to crash even before they leave the ground.

I have a two RC 3D helis... And they are trying to crash the entire time I am flying them... LOL! Nothing like fixed wing.

And as I have read, get off the ground and your good.

My son was behind the camera... And I didn't crash.. LOL!!! It is really easy to get disoriented with the a heli and then it goes down hill from there... literally. I call it "shovel"... dirt... HA!

Oh and the bench test... Scary almost..... Watch the blade deflection!!!

The A-Star. A helo pilot I rode with a lot called them Death Stars.
He told me when they first introduced it they had problems and led to several crashes.
I liked them, they were the quietest and smoothest small helo I rode in.

What is crazy is a rebuilt R22's price is close to a new one. ... WTF? I don't get that....? $30-50K difference? Give me the new one!

One thing I noticed on the RC, the faster the head speed, the smoother and more stable it was. Oh, all I have is a tail gyro. They make them now with a 3 axis gyro... It flies itself pretty much.

A plane when you enter a turn, you give it aileron, elevator, and a bit or rudder to coordinate.

A heli once you enter a bank-turn, it tries to keep rolling and you have to hold it.... And the yaw... you have to keep on the tail rotor! It is a different world for sure.

Oh, I had a LOT of simulator time learning to fly the RC heli... And it helped but... Get disorientated and you are f**ked.

And yea, I got pretty good at setting up... the swash plate settings, etc. Used dial calipers and then ran it on the stand to get the blade tracking perfect. Get the blade tracking off and it would have a horrible vibration.

Forkin, the new heli's with the 3 axis gyros can be pretty damn impressive. They still take a great deal of skill to fly and lots of set up time. The greatest part about them is many have the ability to program a panic button. Get disorientated, hit the panic button and it will instantly right itself. Can even set it up to slowly gain altitude when the panic is activated.

I got to a point with my TRex 500 that I just didn't want to deal with set up any longer and sold it. I'll stick to the mini heli's and bigger fixed wing stuff.
