Gel/Paint removal
I picked up a Hustler Wildcat over the summer and need some advice on the paint/gelcoat. At first glance it looked like someone replaced the transom and shot new gel in the back, but after looking a little closer, it appears that someone painted letters and then tried to blend another layer on top of the factory gel. The canopy, deck, transom, bottom are all the same color and in good shape, but it looks like someone sprayed with a different color flake about halfway back above the rub rail. I also removed some of the painted on letters and the factory gel is still there. Is there any way to tell if it is gel or an automotive paint and any way to safely remove it without getting into the factory gel?

Paint stripper will remove paint but not gel. There’s some fan favorites of what stripper to use you should be able to search it out or maybe someone will chime in. If it doesn’t strip? It’s gel.
