I lucked up on this one. I bought it 30 years ago at an estate sale. All numbers matching and verified by a very rare Certificate of Origin that I acquired from Porsche.

Although it is not perfect and missing a few parts, they only made 989 S-spec Targas in 1972.

And it has been rained on ONCE since I have owned it. It is 99% rust free, and they were bad to rust out as there was little prevention back then! (Targa is German for "water leak"... )

Oh, side note, all the glass is original as per the green tint.







Like said, I am working on it. New Koni shocks on all four corners, all the brakes have been restored, new hoses, etc.

The interior is not original. I replaced the horrible turbo seats with a pair of period correct Wolf Race seats with aluminum frames. And RAID wheel, also very rare and period correct. Oh latest install, it has a Balsa gear shift "knob". All upgrades from what was in it. Oh, and the transaxel is rebuilt, all new shifter bushings, axle shafts rebuilt. Not much left to do on that end.



BTW I do use it. Last time out it ran 130 just for a spirited run. I have had to to 140... Top speed is supposed to be 150+. Not bad for 210hp! I did weigh it before I started. 2,200 and change. The seat change dropped at least 100 pounds. Another upgrade was 16x6 wheels and super sticky tires... And boy are they sticky!!!

I have to do some work to reattach the rear sway bar... I think it will be ready for the AutoX course then!

Who needs music when you have a 2.4L S opposed 6 singing to you? You see the red line? It will pull hard all the way up to it!

And check out the floor mats. Gary needs some for his MG!

It took a lot or tuning to get these to run smooth.. 40 IDA Webers. Two three chokes or "barrels" each. And the engine has 100,000+ miles on it...

It came with MFI. That is going to cost me at least $10K to replace.

Now that you bring that up... Left gauge, fuel level, oil tank level (it has a dry sump oil system... 10 or 11 quarts, and you manually check the level when it is running.)

Next gauge, oil temperature and oil pressure. Complete with idiot lights, top oil, and bottom volts.

Tachometer in the CENTER where it SHOULD BE!!

And everyone needs a clock, right?





What is really cool is the gauges are held in by rubber grommets. If you want to pull one out, you just wiggle it out of the dash. So simple, so German!

Like I have said, I can take it apart and put it together with my eyes closed.





Once here, you shoe horn it into place, 4 bolts and it is there. Axles, linkage, oil and fuel lines... Done! So easy!

Awesome pics!!! And I have a fond affection for the 914s. I spent many hours on this one.






I rebuilt the 2.0L in it long time ago but then the owner converted it to a Subie. And it is bad to the bone!

Me driving. Damn old 901 transaxel. Took me a bit to get used to it. Different pattern than the 915. I DO LIKE the turbo Subie conversion though. As you can see, it is very spirited.

Fast forward to 6:50, it is a rather long video.... For some reason it won't work here...

I restored this one for a good friend. Factory Hemi Race car.... All aluminum fasteners... Even the door hinges are aluminum. . And the doors forward, the sheet metal is a smaller gauge, and VERY hard to work (took me forever to get the fenders and all straight). Also the windows, less the windshield are half as thick.

And he raced it!





I had to come back and add a pic of the hood scoop.... And it is metal also. The underside of the car has been done with the same detail as the upside.

I thought about buying the Coronet. It would cost me $100K+ probably... But then my old 911 is insured for more than that!

I was thinking of a de tune from full race, but what fun would that be?
