I heard of a guy repowering a Laser (I think a 380) with a new V6 four stroke 225 and love it. Out of the box he was over 80. I'll see if I can get some details.

There are some 250 Yamahas for sale on Fastboats Canada. The 250 SHO is 505 lb dry and you can chip it to 300+ HP.

A 225 Pro XS is also 505 lb dry. A 175 Prox XS is 475 lb dry. I think you want more then 175 HP. Merc also makes regular non Pro XS V6s from 175-225 HP and they all weigh 475 lb dry.

Some used opti's here: Reynolds Racing and Marine Used Outboards (reynoldsracingmarine.com)

Thanks David, believe me I'm well aware of everything for sale (and what might be for sale lol) around me right now. The yamaha is a stout package, and I like it too, I just think there's a lot left on the table with merc's v6 that hasn't been exploited yet. I want to hear from those that know more about it than I do before I do anything about it, it's pricy upgrade. It's also 30 lbs lighter to start. I know that isn't much, but I bet it can go on a diet too, I'd like to save weight wherever I can

Ok, but that's a 2 stroke. I'm interested in hearing from guys that have run the 3.4 v6 4 stroke.

Tuff is going to build a couple of 20’s with the Merc V6 over the winter. Their results won’t be soon enough if you want new power in the spring.

What is the delivery lead time for the V6 225?

Tuff is extremely thorough in there set up and testing so what they find out you can take to the bank. It would not surprise me if the new 21 does an even 100 mph once they get the V6 upgraded and dialed in.

Here's an article about a Laser 422 LE repower with the Merc 225 V6. Performs great, 80 MPH out of the box, with some setup should be low to mid 80s.

Did the 3.4 on the STV get solid mounts and or a nose cone or just bolt on and go?

I thought it got solid lowers…could certainly benefit from them if it didn’t.

Have you driven it or rode in it? I’d like to experience it when I’m down there. Cool project!

I believe the two steps are solid lowers plus Sportmaster for the best results over 80 mph.

Very few folks seem to have done the upgrade. Perhaps it voids warranty.

G-money, I think you can round that number off to ................. one ..

Swap the lower back when you take it in for mandated service. My - my, look how clean that oil looks ...

Not a 15" wiff spo~tee an wty .. But your closin in on it ...

General internet MSRP numbers: However does not include .. tax, tag, dealer destination, installation, harness, sporty studs, 15.25 x XX peller, set-up, P.A.C.R. Prices may vary ...

    2022 / 20" Mini-chop $20,285.00

    2022 / 20" porkchop lower $14,500.00

    So for $34,785.00 Mr.G .. your wish can come true ....... sort~ahff ...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    P.S. Wavy,

Very nice write ~ up, but to answer your title question ....

I knew of a couple guys who were working on a performance version, but it's safe to say that project has gone .. kaput-ski, so the 3.4L medium~chop will be stuck on 225 hp for the foreseeable future ..
