One quick question would be is the bottom nice and flat on the pad and outside that area as well in the last 3-5 feet? The smallest hook will keep the boat on the water and not let go. Just something to check. Or your prop may not be a 28P?

to everyone who commented:
Got a stock case with a cone w/ the hose on both sides so it should get plenty of pressure now. 1.87 gears with everything went through and has not touched water. Old case is sold pending pickup as of now.
Also, I have a lifeline I wear whenever I'm going for top end. Normal riding calls for a more comfortable vest but more than not I have a life vest on. and its always in the boat.
I also have a 28 chopper that came into my possession and haven't heard many good things about choppers on streams but would like to know what you guys think about me running it. I would like to try It but is there anything I should watch out for? will it make my boat handle drastically different?
Thanks, Noah

At the MOST, about 10% of what you hear and "what everybody knows" is accurate. The rest is all just total crap. Most of these "experts" have never even run what they're spouting off about. A Chopper works just fine on a Stream. My only beef is with some stock ones they start to run out of bite when you get well above the pad, so raising the motor won't increase the speed much if at all. Should be pretty easy to get to 90+ with what you have now.
You'll want to keep trying different props for fine tuning and to find what feels best for you.Living in the Freedom provided by Bud Conner and his fellow warriors.

thanks again for your input. I got a little work to do to my boat and hopefully some time for a test and tune before June. gotta put an offshore tiller arm and move my motor up a hole so I can get more use out of my jackplate. then hopefully see some big numbers.
best regards and hopefully see you in June,
Noah

To get the best numbers you'll need to get a good bit higher, 1 1/2 to 2" above the pad. Might want to think about a redrill or different style plate for more height.

I think I have about 1 and 1/2 to 1 and 3/4" to play with. the jackplate still has a little over an inch that it can go up and I'm on the second from bottom hole on the clamp. I might be able to stretch it to 2" above the pad with all of that but ill have to see.
I had to redrill the plate to move it up just about as high as I could get it when I bought the boat. I made it as high as It would go and still get the mounting bolts in at the angle.Last edited by Asstracker; 03-26-2022 at 12:41 PM. Reason: spelling

Asstracker, swap over to a cleaver prop....I messed around with all sorts of choppers, rakes, round ears....etc. As soon as I put my first mazco cleaver on... no more pull, half the chine walk, and top end really woke up

I met a guy recently who has a dozen streams and he also vouched for the cleaver being the best. I haven’t run one yet, seems a bit counter to lift the stern on a stream. Anyone experience blow out with cleavers on v hull streams?

With his bottom being blueprinted he might benefit from a little stern lift if the hook was removed.

I tried a cleaver with my old setup. was the first time I drove the boat but I didn't like it. The next time out with the et it drove like a completely different boat. And if you're referring to the hook that came from the mold I believe that started a couple years after my boat was made in '78 when the molds warped.

Drive it with what you're comfortable with, nobody else's ass can tell yours how it should feel. High speed operation requires absolute confidence in yourself and your setup. You can't operate with confidence if it doesn't feel right.
Most of the cleaver cheerleaders are running big horsepower, and that makes perfect sense because the faster you go, the boat lifts itself and doesn't require any help from the prop. A 90 mph boat doesn't always want what a 105 mph boat wants.
I would walk away (maybe run) from ANYBODY who says there's only one way to run, or one prop to run on a Stream, because it demonstrates spectacular ignorance.
I have no tolerance for the "Run what I do or your boat will suck" crowd.Living in the Freedom provided by Bud Conner and his fellow warriors.
