    Vector setup

running a lightweight vector with a carbed 2.5 200. 2 hole cle 2:1. ran best of 85 at 7300(ish) rpms with 28 et cut chopper (12% slip) with another person. my motors about level with the pad. I cannot raise it anymore because of it loosing water pressure. I see people running mid 90's with very similar setups. motor is healthy. Am I better off going 1.87 because of streams "not liking bigger raked props" or can I go to a fuel pump to spin more rpms? Why am I not seeing the numbers others are?

    Thanks in advance guys,
    Noah

I would expect 7300 is past peak power and that more pitch would help. So would losing the passenger

this is the best its ran with or without a passenger. from what I hear streams don't like the rake of the higher pitched props so I can't go up much in pitch without causing the boat to handle like crap. a 2.5 make power as high as you can spin it, only problem is keeping it from blowing.

    Scott,

thanks for the advice. It seems everyone I talk to likes the way the 28" et's run.

mines a '78 redone in coosa in 2020 splashwell delete stringers and knees added(done extremely well). only have front seats. very lightweight design. 200ff with wmv carbs. 40 amp electronics, 5 pedal front half. stock heads. 2 piece plates(not dry stacked) opened up a bit with aftermarket tuner. promax/260 20" can with bobs snout (loud af). 4" manual jackplate. Seastar pro. I did my motor in march of last year so I forget the exact size and specs of how I set it up.

I seem to stay out of the hop zone by myself a lot better than with a passenger. but when I'm in it, it's 10x worse. a tiny bit of throttle and im out of it. boats pretty well balanced with me, 180lbs and a little bit of a larger passenger. maybe 215-225lbs. been throwing weight around in the boat to try to balance havent had it right yet but not too far off.

my prop was cut for this boat and works like a dream. only other prop I've tried is a 30" mercury cleaver and it did not seem to like that at all. (could've been driver since it was my first time driving it or any stream for that matter).

I'm young and love to go for high numbers. my dad used to have me sit on his lap and rip his euros or rr. I've been well into the 120's in stvs and would like to see high 90's with my motor before I go big power down the road a year or two. previous owner had my boat over 100 with a 225pm with 0 setup and was predicting 1teens with the right setup. id love to get closer to triple digits.

I think you answered this yourself. A 1.87 lower will give you more legs up top

I ran a stock 2:1 CLE once. My boat wouldn't talk to me for a month.

Bring that thing to the Romp. We'll show you how to get it faster(and spend all your earnings for the next 5 years)

I think there is something up here. If you are running 85 with a 2:1 with a 28p I don't think your slip is that high or your RPM is off and your really running more around 6900-7000 rpm. I am confused how you are having water pressure issues and only can go even with the pad. Do you have a LWP? Where is all the weight in the boat? Battery or fuel tank in the bow?

slips not bad for the boat. rpm range is about right. anywhere 7200-7300, 7k ran me 80-81 so I know I was well above it and I saw a little bit between the gauge last I looked down(no recall). newer mercury gauges. stock cle comes with lwp so yes. I don't know why I don't get the water pressure I want but I think its something to do with the case not having big enough holes to suck enough water up. weight is in the back of the boat. battery and fuel tank are under where the splashwell was.

Any mods that can make it flow more water through the lower? I get about the same speed with my vking on a 2.4 carb and the RPM is lower than yours with a 2:1 and 28 yamaha. Good luck to you, I would try a different lower so you can go higher.
