Project "Knot Sure"
Good morning everyone. New member here. I am posting my project here in hope someone will recognize the make model and year of this 14 foot boat that I purchased the end of last summer. Before anyone recommends searching Fiberglassics library, I have gone through every page and spent weeks online researching with no luck. There are no HIN numbers on this boat, no capacity plate, and nothing glassed in under the cap anywhere. There is nothing to go off of other attached to this boat other than the the registration number. Previous registration states make 0000 SIMONEAU and I can find no information about any manufacturer with that name. The hull and aft lines on this boat is very similar to a glastron 143 boat but some differences like the faux hood scoop that is part of the factory mold, lack of fiber glassed in seats and console and where the cap splits at the transom is straight across instead of splitting at the top.

I have no idea what it is but welcome to the site. Always nice to see one saved. Wealth of knowledge here someone will have an idea. Could very well be a splash of some sort.

It is typical in the boating industry to use another manufacturer's hull as a plug for a mold. Sometimes adding a strake here and there or maybe something to change the lines of the boat. Much cheaper than creating a plug from scratch. It is basically stealing someone's design and knowledge. The quality of a splash is often the main issue. This is completely in the control of the splasher. I have personally owned two splashed hulls. One was a MX13 and the other an STV ModVP. Both of mine were done right and never had any structural, cosmetic, or handling issues whatsoever. The character of the builder is the big issue. Not all splashes are created equal.

I agree w/Rock on it being a splash.
And it looks just like and old GLastron.
Adding a bow scoop, or whatever, is easy to do.
It is a common practice when splashing so you can argue it’s not the same boat that true owners accuse of copying/splashing.
Regardless, cool boat and should be a hoot w/o needing big power.
I used to ski behind the Glastron version of that w/a 70 Rude on it.
We were kids but thought it was a rocket!
40 as I recall, w/two 13 year olds in it.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...as-Passed-Away Check out post number 10 last boat pictured by Fujimo. Your boat may be a mid ‘60’s Glaston Fireflite or a splash of it.

I know there are "rules" on how big you can go on the outboard, this is one of the reasons I am hoping to find information on this boat. (no capacity plate found) After doing some research with some measurements and calculations with what I have found on line, this little boat "should" have a max hp rating of about 70. But, my question is, down the road would upgrading to an ol 90 Merc be stupid unsafe on my part?
