I'm currently running a small barrel 26 pitch thru-hub on my Baker. 72 mph at 6500 rpm, Bob's LWP, Bob's hydraulic jack plate as high as it will go. With a worn-out Yamaha 175 ski motor! It still feels like the bow is sticking to the water. May try my son's 28p big-ear chopper and see if the bow will carry.

Here are a couple of things that are sometimes forgotten in the quest to get some bow lift. The amount of setback of the motor on the transom or jackplate. Sometimes and extra inch of setback will give you the leverage to allow the bow to float a bit more. Another thing is that for most props (chopper) that are designed to give more bow lift you can't run the prop totally submerged. You have to get the top of the prop in the air, not in the water as the buried portion of the prop is what gives you your lift. If all of the blades are in solid water it won't work. Best wishes always, Carter

If you can borrow a coned lower unit do so. In my experience anything under blow out speed is much better with NO CONE. I lost 3mph and a bunch of lift with a cone. I've had my Lavey (Baker Bass Boat Bottom) to 84 mph with a stock OMC Lower. I have Rakers 24,26 and 28 pitch 29 SRX (DAH) 26 Predator (DAH)
Rakers are hard to beat, SRX is fastest, Predator is a Rocket on acceleration.

I'd try a Promax propeller on it.

I love all the replies in this thread. Lots of good info. Sadly, I have since sold my Baker. It was a great boat and it went to a great home.

10mph is huge for just a prop, did you change anything else? LWP, height, etc? What rpms did the 26p turn? I have a Switzer 17ss with a xr4 and run 71mph at 5800 on a laser II and looking to get the most out of my setup. Thank you and sad to hear you let it go
