Couldn’t get this sticker in focus but was hilarious.

Was on a Triumph Spitfire on the ferry back to mainland.

Says, “the parts falling off this car are of the finest British quality” !

    Some progress:

Found, painted and installed a front air dam

On version VI of my ram air

Best news came from a couple of calls yesterday.

Found a donor motor and an MG shop to supply my parts and do the machine work on block, head etc.

Will p/up motor in next wk or two and order aluminum head next.

Ordering bare head which I will port then have shop cut for bigger valves etc.

Currently replacing all the rotted, rubber suspension bushings w/polyurethane.

Shouldn't you have the head cut for the bigger valves first so you can blend the pockets and ports when you are grinding in there???

    Great question and yes.

Doing it this way though so I don’t booger up the final product.
I do my deal, give to the shop for the valves then blend to his work.

Ill drop a couple of donor, OEM valves into their holes to protect seats while I grind on combustion chambers.

I assume they are going to put hardened valve seats in? So it will be good with unleaded gas? May as well check and see if them make some Pro Flow valves with the necked down stems for it. Springs, retainers, etc, etc. You know the drill.

How strong is the bottom end? And what kind of RPMs will it stand? I guess it is more of a torque motor?

You changing the camshaft too? That thing is going to be better than new when you are done. All new bushings, wow! How good are the brakes? It really should make a magazine article somewhere.

I run 50/50 100 low lead AV gas in my 911 because it was made to run leaded gas. I also am running 50:1 two stroke oil in it.. Let's just call it a "top end lubricant". LOL!!!

Paul, on paper the motor is an absolute turd!

But they run really, really well.

I am turning mine 5500 which where it starts wheezing anyhow and is factory red line.

I will turn the new motor 6500.
    Racers turn them 7500+!

The experts are telling me at my level the stock cam is fine to my target rpm.

They say anything else kills bottom end for street.

I told the shop I was having a hard time wrapping my head around that one!

All new valve train (why I’m buying a bare head), roller rockers and flowed valves.

W/my playing w/ram air, the motor is taking all the air I can give it.
    Which is a good sign.

    Rebuilding the suspension now.

Replacing all the rotted out rubber bushings with urethane versions.

Cool piece of old British engineering is their shocks.
They are cast housings full of oil w/a link/rod that actuates an internal valve.
    They call them dampers.

In theory, they never wear out or need replaced.

Both of the rears are leaking and the race guys say conventional shocks are a huge upgrade so…., doing that too.

Also, just got back from picking up my donor short block to be used for the race motor.

    Its a cute lil booger!

Good news is, rear suspension is done and there were no surprises!
    Yay!

Did the autopsy on the motor and good news is it’s the good block and crank like I gambled.

Bad news is, it has the early rods that are weak.
Now I decide whether to find the good MG rods and pay to shot peen and prep them or buy race rods that are way better.

By product of the parts source I found is, it’s in the home town of one one of my best buds.
Far enough away too that, it makes an overnight fun trip

We toured the Packard museum in the same town, last time there.

    Perfect!

One of the best surprises w/this project has been how accessible and affordable parts are.

That changes when you shop for hot rod parts!
    Yikes!

What oil do you guys run? All or most of the early 911 guys run Brad Penn because of the zinc content. I just flushed mine twice and the oil is now clear. Time to order oil. And to fill mine it is about 100 bucks not including the filter, drain washers, and gaskets for the sump.
