I had a 1972 MGB-GT in the late 70's after the gas shortage. It replaced a 442. My first intro into cars that actually have good handling. Moved on to Porsches later in life. Had several street 911's and a 914-6 race car. I am now doing a nut and bolt resto-mod to a 1974 914 2.0 that I have had since 1980. Added 911S suspension, brakes and rotors and a 964 3.6L six. I welded on steel 916 flares and sent if off for paint and new interior. Almost complete.

Had some Gary time before going back to work.

Total rebuild on both carbs and $10, home made ram air system.

Oh yeah, ported the intake while I had the carbs off.

Now runs the best it ever has!

Cant wait open up the motor but still doing some reading 😉

Instigator, my experience (more correctly my cousin's experience) with MG is British technology.
A tool box is needed. My cousin's MGB (model circa 1970) was a machine that needed attention.

My cousin then, was meticulous and gave a lot of tender-loving upkeep on his hardtop.
However, it was a joy to drive.

Here are some photos similar to his ride.

Don’t know if I posted this before or not.

Know why the Brits drink warm beer??

    They have Lucas refrigerators!

I have heard all of the horror stories too.

I had a Triumph motorcycle back in the day and it lived up to the Lucas reputation.

I crossed my fingers and headed home from the sellers house, the 100 miles w/the MG and it never missed a beat.
And coming from a seller who had zero history on the car.

The car so far has been nothing but a joy.

So basic and easy to work on it’s excellent therapy for me.

Everything I fixed repaired or tuned so far has just been neglect and or age related.

Tweaked on the carbs one more time today and drove 20 miles and it runs perfect!

Gorgeous cars in your post too.

Wow! I've never seen a "GT" hard top conversion kit before. Was this custom built from scratch? What did the interior and trunk end up looking like? Photos?
What was used for side panel and rear window glass?

    No clue.

I assumed they were standard GTs until your reply.

Those pixs we’re posted by lake x kid, not me.

I still feel the convertible is a much nicer car. Those hard top/conver/fastback really do not look right to me.

Perhaps they got the idea from the Jaguar E Type coupe, or the E type 2+2. The original E type was the prettiest, the 2+2 versions were a bit hunch backed looking

Jags have good lines until you put an ugly hard top on it. About as ugly as a French Citroen.

I agree, ugly and also very noisy.
I had a Boxter that was horrible for air noises and squeaks...
Only the newer style cars that have really spent time perfecting all the seals and lock mech work pretty good.

Gary, yours looks the way it was intended or supposed to look.....

I’ve always thought that, there are very few convertibles that look as good w/the top up and down.

Just saw a MGB hard top on e-bay.

The ‘80 that I almost bought, had one.

I got cought up on a 76 MG Midget. Did the same thing fixing all the little stuff. Parts are so cheap, its scary. Joined a MG club and they are some devoted guy's with tons of knowledge .Kind of like SF. I get more looks than the new Corvette parked next to me.lol
