Possible Hydrostream Viper Newbie arrives at Scream and Fly !!

    Hello scream and fly,

I was born playing around in boats when young (offshore fishing) but after being out the boat scene for about 15 years I decided to look at a fun boat for cruising around the local lake.. I went
look at a viper today but the 150XP engine is a bit heavy for such a small boat. I was thinking one of those lightweight crossfire 140 OMC might be a better idea. This boat doesn't need to do lightspeed.
I just want to pull my kids around on a tube and blast around by myself now and then. The floor and transom were redone a few years ago and I did get in the boat and verify that it isn't rotten. I actually
couldn't hardly believe it but it was true. It could use an interior and paint job of course. For $2500 you think I should just sell the 150 and find a V4 ? He has a old 140 Tower of Power I could probably
get him to throw in for free but I'm not sure how that compares to the OMC 140 weight wise ......

Looks nice. I’d get all you can with it and try it as rigged first see how you like it. Take a goooood look at the core first. Through the bilge area it should look like a gym floor bright wood color. Black dark core is bad.

Like LakeFever suggested, a core sample is your best bet to start off with. But the price seems good.

You must be comparing it to a loop charged 140 not the cross flow 140 (crankshaft rated), which became the 115 prop shaft rated.

I wasn't meaning to compare the currently installed motor with the crossflow 140. I'm good with a HP decrease. I was wanting the crossfire for its lightweight and that's what my old man had when I was young.

A properly setup V4 140 x-flow boat, with full interior, will run 70+. They're cool motors
