    300 Etec"s steering on cat

Hi guys I am looking for some advice here, I have a Warlock 28 sxt cat which has a pair of 2.5
260 hp drag mercury's controlled by Imco steering That I intend to sell
My question is do I retain any of the Imco steering controlling the Mercs s
I now have a pair of 300 Etec's going on the boat to replace them. Are wing plates compatible on them
or what steering system do you recommend to make this configuration work its never going to be raced
but I need it to operate safely obviously
    thanks in advance

I guess I will rephrase the question has anyone fitted steering wing plates to a G1 v6 Evinrude or seen that set up
    on a 28 ft cat

Why are you selling the mercury,s?
Performance and balance seem way better to me than the etec,s
if You think you are going to save ton,s of fuel you probably are going to be disappointed

Yes you can fit wing plates but will take some work to refit the lower covers. At one point Imco made the plates

Hi The Mercury's are 1998 2.5 260 hp weight I think around 375 lb each
yes there super light . When the boat was built it had 3 on the back so no real issue with a bit of extra
weight going on there. They run on oil ratio 40 / 1 which is fine
But I keep the boat on boat lift on a canal surrounded by houses so when I fire up you cant see down the canal
    or any of the houses
and then I have a slow idle out for a while which they don.t like much .
The Etecs weren't my primary choice but after getting scammed on here for nearly $17.000
I found some mint 300 Etecs they were the only affordable choice as what ever I bought owed me + the $17.000 I lost

Thanks for that Imco seem to list them for the 250 ho etec cant think they would be any different for the 300,s
I understand wot you mean the lower cover will have to be cut out or a slot in it to fit around the protrusion of the plate
I am picking up on a part number WP-25-LR Still cant believe no one has come back that has fitted one
I am kind of thinking with what people are asking for early 300 XS Mercs they might get forced down this route too

the nice thing about mercury,s is they have very low gear ratio,s
tthe Hull truth has a lot of set engines
maybe something like this if you have a good engine rebuilder in your area
    https://www.thehulltruth.com/parts-f...25-shafts.html
the you could mount sportmasters or SEI coned gearcases with a 1.62 gear ratio

I understand what your saying, I mean there is nothing wrong with the motors that are on there.
The Starboard has just had a $5.000 rebuild they both have 20 inch shafts on 1.62 ratio sportmaster
    gearboxes.
But I think they are an engine you need to live with. I live in the UK and in the States 3 times a year for a few weeks at a time. The etecs are 14 years newer cleaner running and according to figures out there substantially more economical. This is going to sound out there but I like my boat clean and the Mercs
put a nice film of oil residue on the transom. Now if you keep the boat on a trailer you wouldn't consider
it as any issue. But with the stern hanging out over the canal you would need to be an orangutan to keep it clean. I do appreciate What your saying its a 98 boat so never going to worth Skater money.
I just want turn key if its makes a top end of 65-75 mph I'm all good.
I will be selling the Mercs but being over here another logistical nightmare getting them off
    stored and transported.
