Gorgeous old Checkmate w/an in-line!
Love this thing!
Needs to be a 150 of course.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Agreed - that does appear to be in amazing condition. I used to have the same boat, same year only red with silver with a 140 inline. Lots of great memories from that rig.

I restored a ‘1969 16’ and put a 140 V-4 on it and was one the most fun, best balanced, fun to drive boat I ever owned!
Put a ski pylon in it and slalomed behind it every weekend.
This would have been top of the food chain for early OPC too.
I used to have an old APBA record book from early 70’s and all the marathon (3 - 7hrs) records were held by them.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

My first boat was a 17 checkmate but it was mid 80's and it was a 17 sportfire with a 135 merc. Great little boat. Not the fastest but was a solid ride for a small boat. The blue one with a newer motor would be a nice set up.
I sent the seller an email about the boat....here I go getting sucked in. My daughter went to school in Pitt that is 8 hours from me...wonder how much shipping would be since Columbus is another couple hours further. Mapquest says 527 miles from me.....Last edited by 282; 01-17-2022 at 12:34 PM.

Good for you!
Mine ran 60 on a Speedo.
24” Raker, no Jack plate etc.
I figured mid 60’s w/set up would be easy.
Maybe 70, perfect.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
