    Omc nitro lower unit question

Hello everybody, I have a question regarding my short shaft 70hp Johnson with a nitro gear case, does anybody know the specs on where to adjust the shift rod to? It is a 15” 56ci

I don't think a nitro lower ever came on a 56ci motor except SST 60 but shift rod height on 15' motors was 16-13/32 plus or minus 1/32
    Hope this helps

No they didn't but if you use the base plate, power head and exhaust off a 56 cube, it will mount right on a short shaft Stinger with a few small mods. The 86-87s has the same crank spline as a Nitro gear case.

If I remember correctly, the base plate from the 56 is 1/4" thicker, unless it was moded or if its a custom plate. Keep this in mind if you use the measurement Keith gave you.

    What’s the issue you’re having?
Can’t get enough travel to get F-N-R?

Hey all, sorry for the late reply, thanks for the help. I got it on and everything working right, now just wait for the ice to melt to get out for some testing

Not sure about your question but I use what ever works. As for keeping that Nitro healthy, I don't shift mine while the motor is running, at least when running a solid hub prop.
