Mercury 50HP ?

Will running a 1995 ish Merc 50hp without lower unit leak oil/gas out from the bottom of crank seal.? Does the lowers drive shaft seal it from leaking out . I've been running mine with no lower unit. Using the water hose from the house but hooked to the water tube directly now its leaking oil and gas down the midsection.

There is a lower crankcase seal assembly. Actually 2 seals in a housing. You need to repair it before running, shaft does not seal it.

Reason I'm do that is bc I just rebuilt the engine so I'm doing some break in time. My new water pump impeller is being shipped. The leak made me feel like I sit something wrong installing the lower crank oil ring or pressed in seal got weird .
