He was fun to listen to commentate a game. I haven't watched more than 2 minutes of NFL in the past few years but have fond memories of listening to him call some games way back when the 85 Bears won the super bowl.

Same here, probably the most iconic name even out of the players, remember him in the high school days, I can still remember his voice dishing out the play by play, good times

He was 85. According to an article I read he had the highest regular season win percentage of any head coach with 100 or more games.103-32 and 7. I found that hard to believe with Belichick etc. He is also the youngest head coach in NFL history at age 32. Suffered a knee injury in his rookie season and went into coaching. Retired at 42 and went into broadcasting. Didn't know some of that history. I just remember him and Pat Sumerall calling games.

Madden and Cosell my favorite announcers. Incredibly talented pair that made football fun to listen to. Never heard them together though. RIP John.
