I got my cylinder heads back. Took .070 off. It brought them to 28.75cc. I know you can go down to 26cc but I'm happy with the 28.75cc. Hopefully I can use 91 octane.

Smart move not cutting the max. You can always cut em again.

If I were to get wmh 21 or 22 carbs, would it add power? If it is worth it, what jetting would I start with? Stock 150 jets? Stock 175/200 jets?

I ran a set of late model WMV's off a XR6 150 on a 86 model 150 2.0. For starters you have to grind off the bottom of the carb bowls to make them fit on a vertical reed intake setup. I didn't change any jets at all since both of these were stock motors at the time. The 2.0 would turn 6200 with the stock carbs and turned 6700-6800 with the WMV's. No other changes but keep in mind this was on a heavy built 15' Champion that would already run mid 70's with a stock 2.0.

I found a set of xr6 carbs for cheap that I'm going to try first. I'm making progress. Just waiting on parts. Getting the powerhead separated sucked. But the tuner is replaced. Now I'm waiting on upper motor mount bolts and 4 new powerhead studs cause I ruined the ones that were there trying to get it separated. Good news is that everything will come apart easier next time. I added cylinder head studs. Waiting on parts has been terrible. Shipping companies seem to be taking 3 times as long as they used to. But I have until spring until I can use it.

Merc 2.5,
Didn't you recently build a modified 2.0l? I've been trying to find the build thread again because it was interesting.

Yee boy getting fun now . From my experience, I did turn about 200 more rpm with wmv, but issue I had with them they where very inconsistent coming off idle. They’d rip off one day, then studder and load up the next. Mid range also wasn’t as good. They just idled cleaner and would pull a couple hunyed rpm. I got sick of trying to get ‘em right.

So far I've made a lot of progress.
-Changed tuner to Bob's tuner
-velocity stacks
-louvers
-Changed reeds to CCM reeds
-Added Reed stuffers
-Ordered 1 inch spacer
-I have wh22, xr6, and stock wmh31 carbs. I'm gonna try the wh22 first with the jetting at .074.
-Heads cut to 28.7cc
-exhaust ports raised to 1.60"
-very slight exhaust chest cut. Left all the material in the chest, just slight angle downwards on the bottom of each
Now I just gotta wait till May to try it lol. I hope it runs well.Last edited by merc1250bayliner; 02-02-2022 at 10:36 PM.
