Hydrostream voodoo rebuild/restoration

Hi I’m 18yrs old I’m located I’m Minden hills. Ontario.. I bought this voodoo 3yrs ago and noticed there was wood chunks floating in the water coming out the drain plug. So I decided I’m gonna rip the floor out.. then I ripped the floor out and just decided that the boat needed a ton of work so I decided that all do a full rebuild so follow along!!!

Voodoos are cool little hulls. It’s a lot of work to restore but a lot of fun. I watched a couple of your vids, looks like you can use a finned roller. Bubbles can be drilled and injected with catalyzed resin using a syringe. Hope this is of some help

Hey buddy thanks for watching! I bought a roller for air bubbles now. but yes I will grind all air bubbles down I’m not to happy with them there.

So the story of this boat is a hole formed near the back of the pad so the back half of the boat (pad,core,floor,transom pice added) was done about 3yrs ago right before I bought it but everything was factory. It needed to be rebuild years ago can’t believe it was still holding up my 300+lbs Mercury 75hp on a 4”setback?
Before I started I was just gonna replace the floor but as I cut my way into the boat I realized that its gonna need everything replaced so it got real from there. So I got planning to split the top half off so I could get at everything since it’s so small, I invested in advanced Composite materials so I can make it as light as possible so I can go fast!!!

It gets a lot easier quickly. What we did the first 40hours of lays we could do now in 4 and it would look as good or better. There’s two of us working together and I lay out the sheets and flatten them down by hand best I can while the other preps resin and wets out the sheets while I fin roll. I had a bit of a surprising revelation along the way because I kept trying to roll the bubbles out, and now I try and lay the glass flat. What that means is often my air bubbles which I had to work very hard at first to remove were not “under the glass needing removed” but rather the glass was stretched out a bit too much and needed to be pushed into the corners and transitions. This means I now mostly roll using the finned roller in towards the corners and transitions to help the glass lay down tight. Then after it’s in there right I roll the rest of the bubbles out of the end of the glass mat. Gotta watch you don’t pull the mat back out of the corners though and make a new air pocket.

Thanks for that. My dad is helping me along the way with the mixing and layout part since it’s hard to do by myself but yea it’s kinda been just me working on it till now because the “rebuild” part of the build I want it to be as perfect as I can get it. I like to take my time and do the best I can just the way I am! Didn’t know a thing about fiberglass till I started this build. But after I closely inspected the core job I did I know exactly what I need to improve on and did a way better job on laminating the transom very happy with that!

I cut out the floor and grinded as much carpet glue and excess glass and resin as I could before I split the boat.
the carpet glue was melting from the grinded and was slinging hot wet glue all over me was not fun got burnt a couple times. Also ripped out the float boxes witch were wet and heavy.

Time to pull the motor off.. So I built a stand outta scrap wood, I didn’t have the proper hook to thread in to the flywheel to hoist the motor off so I had a pice of steel plate bent at 90° and drilled 2 holes and threaded in 2 smaller bolts in the flywheel it had smaller threads around the big center thread that’s probably not good the lift 300+lbs on that but that’s all I could whip up at the time and drilled a hole on the vertical side of the steel so I can hook it up to a chain.
I have bought the proper lifting hook now so I fell a bit better about re rigging!

I flipped the boat over so I can build a frame to sit the hull in so I can split the top half off. So I started to profile the the bottom hull onto 1/2” plywood, About a couple hundred cuts later I had all my pieces cut and ready to start building was very happy with the way it turned out! Boat fits in perfectly real tight fit.
I put 2 2x4s along the bottom and rested the frame on 4 snowmobile dollies so I can roll it out side to cut and grind so I don’t coat the garage in fiberglass dust…

Time to split the hull! I took a Milwaukee multitool and went around the hole boat, There was no seam to base my cut on and there’s not much to base it on so I split the difference and cut away took about 9hr to cut went threw about 5+batteries! Fortunately it worked out perfectly I cut it in the right spot and I got a nice surface around the whole lip so that’s a relief because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it…

Time to rip out the transom!!!
the transom is original form factory.. The bottom half under the splash-well there was a piece of 1/2” ply wood added then glassed in by a fiberglass guy before I bought it, Im guessing that was added because the wood was so soft the bolts had nothing to back onto. Makes sense because the wood is so soft/rotten!
Not sure how it was still holding up my 75merc that weight just over 300lbs witch is sitting on a 4”setback
and the boat is only rated for a 50hp maximum
transom literally fell out as seen below!
