info on a 225 EFI Mercury outboard
I'm looking at a 2000 225 EFI outboard that has a low cylinder. Real lack of info from seller, So here are my questions, first, this should be a 3.0 right? second, this should be able to be setup with 300 specs, and lastly, if I get there, and its a 25 leg, can I use the mid off my 2.5 200 to convert it to a 20 leg? the guy said the ser# on the clamp is gone. So I'm thinking asking for the stamp on the power head is asking too much. its a 5 hour drive. so......

That should be a 3.0, yes. I do not believe the 2.5 parts will swap. Someone with more info will be along im sure

3.0 yes. 300hp capable yes(heads, porting, computers) Part's to do so are hard to find.
Not interchangeable with 2.5.
Factory compression #s 90-110
They drink fuel.

do they drink more than a 225 pro max? and just how hard is it to get a 300 computer?

I think my 225 efi on a champion 202 consumes twice the fuel that my laser ltv uses with a 150 supermag. I would guess they use a fair bit more than a 225 promax.
As for parts take a look on ebay or in the classifieds of this forum. You would have alot of money into trying to build one up, if you could find the stuff. Nitrous system to make your 300hp would probably be a fraction of the cost.

I'm running a 21 checkmate with the 225 pro max, if I run it hard, it will drain the tank. My thinking was to get a 3.0 as a second outboard so that it would be quieter and more torquey than the pro max, so the thinking was to get a 225 and change the computer and heads, but leave the porting alone.

They are quieter. I gained about 7mph on the champion with the 225efi vs 200 2.5 carb. I also have a bullet 20dc that came with the 225efi. Switched that boat over to a warmed up 200xri gained alot better drivabity and only lost a couple mph. Champ advertise at 1550lbs.
Bullet 1100lbs.Last edited by OnPad; 12-09-2021 at 01:11 AM.
