    Cool The Turbinia, an 1897 Hotrod!

    34.5 knots, 104' length and 9' wide. THREE steam turbine engines AND drives...

    A bit of history... And there are more videos out there on this early hotrod! I wish there was an actual video of the boat running... but in 1897, do the math...

    Turbinia still exists and is in a museum in Newcastle in the U.K. Check out the drive arrangement; three shafts, NINE props!

    I heard it has three per shaft, but that visual helps. Thanks! That is crazy, spinners and all. Cool that it is in a museum!

    Paul, that's pretty awesome. I was actually planning on writing an article about this boat. It's definitely the first real 'speedboat'. I especially like the caterpillar propeller arrangement and I wonder how efficient it actually is.
