Old Hydrostream incident
I first viewed this photo in about 1988. Myself and a buddy had both purchased Valero’s and were attending the Madison regatta (unlimited hydros). We had our Hydrostream t-shirts on and saw a truck with a Hydrostream on the back. The friendship began and the story’s started flowing. Rick (the driver under water) pulls out this 8” x 10” framed photo of this incident.
It’s a long story but he was a crazy dude. And a ton of fun back in my “partying days”.

I had a 75 Viper 1977, 78 Viking, 79 Venus, 82 Factory Havasu race Venus which I was Instructed by HRN to make the pad a 12 incher, no one could pass me on straights but would spin like a top in corners,(as Ron Baker said It would) Roark Summerford came over to me and said get a different boat, Kim Howard was the top guy back then running a paper weight boat and I had more top end than him but I went wide in the corner to let him pass because If I kept my foot in It I would spin like a top always stayed in seat, I would drive straight towards shore spin the wheel and do a 180
Kim and I became friends and I bought a Sleekcraft
I once put a new jack plate on my Cuda and took off for a drag race in Alabama no time for testing, so at the race site I realized I could not lower the motor enough for my hole shot, no tools or time to make changes so I told my wife to take pictures I'm going to give a show... So I did, I made a MVP type race turn and my wife said the whole boat went under water for a instant and my wife never got the picture instead she almost dropped the new camera.

That's a crazy photo. I've seen many Hydrostream mishaps, but I don't think I've seen one exactly like this. It could happen to anybody, and it has happened to many people here that are very experienced.

As long as you don't get spit through the deck, you are probably good. I did a recovery on a Piranha where that was the case. It wasn't pretty at all. And damn sure ruined a great boating trip.
I had my XB hook at 95 or so when the motor stuck. I had a bit of warning so I braced myself and stayed in... I wish I had my GoPro back then... I figure it did a 100' diameter hook or less and a 180 degrees.
I unintentionally kited my tunnels a couple times... Now that was NOT FUN! Give me a hooker boat with a mod lip any day!

Law Suits
You, In FB Jail? No way!
A couple law suits involved in this wreck, Including one about Hook in the pad. The insurance company flew an inspector out to see if the motor had any modifications done, It had not, it was stock. His next boat was a V-King with a 175 and Nitrous. Those were the days, we were invincible.L.T.
