Merc 20M - Fuel Connection Issues (Female)
Got a super clean 1999 - 20M tiller. How can I do the fuel tank to to engine connection delete? Or is there an easier way for the connection?
Just replaced the female end with an Atwood version and it almost left me stranded the other day as it wouldn't get a good connection and was leaking. Sadly, it it replaced an OEM and it was giving up on me.
The boat is an open J16 Carolina Skiff so disconnect the line from the engine and put the tank in the garage to stay out of the elements.
Help me please! You never know what your faith is, until your faith has been truly tested.

Can’t you just connect the fuel line from the tank directly to the fuel filter inlet with a small hose clamp? I had to do this with my Mercury 8HP. Not sure if your 20HP has the plastic fuel filter (cup-like canister that unscrews and has a filament inside) between the fuel line connectors and the carb, like the 8HP?

Yep, mine has the little cup canister filter as well and your recommendation is probably what I'll go with.
Is there another easier, quick connect as I still want to remove the fuel line & tank after each trip vs. having it sitting in the weather.
Thanks brother man!You never know what your faith is, until your faith has been truly tested.

The short and honest answer is I don’t know of any other quick connect-type connectors…others may be able to help you there. I will say this…I can understand your desire to remove the fuel tank between outings as I do the same thing. I have a 12-foot open jon boat and prefer to not have my fuel tank sitting in the sun and/or rain and be visible (and accessible) to other folks (usually drunks) floating past my cottage in tubes and canoes and floats and whatever else. Good luck, my friend.
