Sam Jenkins or Monty would be ones to ask. Alot of guys that are running 3L Torq/Sport Masters just weld and redrill the mounting flange holes on the lower to the OMC pattern and not using any adapter plate at all.

I think that only works on the 3.0 Sportys?

I personally have a 3.0L sporty that Kevin did. I know several people that have welded up the Torquemaster flange and redrilled them as well. The Torquemaster does have a thinner flange but the guys I know who've done it haven't had any issues.

What I meant was 3.0 Sporty Vs 2.5 Sporty.

    They have different mounting patterns.

Yup I misunderstood ya. Yes 2.5 cases are gonna need a adapter plate (or again Sam Jenkins makes the 16" Taylor mid that has the OMC upper and the Merc 2.5 lower).

    10-4

Was more towards answering Mr Gs question.

Ive done a couple of the (OMC) 16” Taylor mids (before Sam got them) w/Merc 2.5 liter Sportys.

The 3.0 Sportys have way bigger water pumps which are mandatory for a V-8 looper and preferable on V-6 loopers.

The bonus is how easy they are to mate to OMCs.
As you noted, weld up and redrill OEM bolt locations.

Chaz does the conversion to a Merc single ram for the 16” Taylor/Jenkins mid.
    Which is the best option.

The two I’ve done, we cut down the OMC trim/clamp assembly which deletes the OEM trim ram pads/pickup.
You then fab up guides that allen screw to the back of the clamp saddles.

Best is to then install bronze trim tube bushings in place of the OEM nylon versions.

Works for light duty but not the best route, and not long in rough Svc.
