'06 Mercury 250 ProXS modification
Hello All,
I pulled the trigger, and bought a 2006 Mercury 250 ProXS, and in my clouded mindset, was too focused on wanting, and getting a 250, I forgot to ask the seller. I pulled off my 2003 Mercury 225 EFI (scored cylinder), and hung the 250 on the boat. Well, I believe the 250 is a 25", and my 225 a 20".
Are the '03 225 EFI, and '06 250 ProXS midsections compatible? Can I put the midsection, and lower unit from my '03 225 EFI, onto my '06 250 ProXS? (Please say yes
Both motors are 100% complete motors...

yes you can, but you will either need to change the adapter plate so that the opti one sits on the 25 inch can or modify the 25 inch adapter plate... easier to swap i think.

I was thinking the new 4 strokes have a spacer added to the mid for the extra 5 inches? Remove and cut the driveshaft, shift shaft and water tube? I may be completely wrong in your motor. But I was looking at 225 or 250 v6 4 strokes on a boat last weekend and they clearly had the spacer in the mid.

I was hoping I could use the midsection, and lower unit from my 2003 Mercury 225 EFI, and bolt'em to the 250, since the 225 is the correct length mirror, 25" I believe. Eliminating cutting and welding shafts together. This might sound dumb, but I just don't know the answer.
If the midsection doesn't bolt right up, is there an adapter plate that would allow the 225 midsection to be used on the 250 ProXS.

You'll need the adapter plate from the 250 bolted to the 225 mid can, and then it'll work. We can help ya at Mallard Marine out in Nacogdoches Texas if you need someone to do it.

Thank you all so much more the great info, I really appreciate it! T-racer, I might be hitting you (Mallard Marine) up, I've turned wrenches, and have been in custom fabrication the majority of my adult life, close to 30 years, just not very much below the powerhead. If I get outside my abilities, I'll definitely holler at you and bring it to your shop.
Thanks again everyone!
