BAJA 220 Sport, with Johnson 3.6 V8 Outboard Propping.
I recently bought a 1986 BAJA 220 Sport, with a 1986 Johnson GT 3.6 Outboard mounted on A Gil Marine custom mount, very nice engineering on the whole unit. this boat sat in heated storage for 15 years, and is brand new,it was used about 10 times before it was sold two years ago. The fellow I bought it from used it 4 times, and the last he had it out the prop shaft broke right at the end of the lower unit housing, OMCs better idea design a two piece prop shaft and then farm it out to some Incomp. machine company to mess it up, anyway he lost the prop and the end of the shaft in the river. I have looked high and low and I cant find anything about a BAJA 220 Sport Outboard, everything has an I/O in it. I am looking for a propellor recomendation. According to the parts list, for the lower unit, all the parts are the same as in the Cobra out drive except the drive shaft. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I don't have anything to offer other than the sport 220 is one of the best looking boats Baja made and the outboard versions are super rare.

I'll take a shot in the dark here. I would start with a large diameter 4 blade in the 24 to 28 pitch range. Something like a bravo prop. Alot of it will be dependent on how high your motor is mounted and how many girls you want to load in it.

Very cool rig!
There was one around us, back in the day
As already noted, engine height will determine all.
If its stock-ish……, try a 26” Raker.
If the motor is up, try a 28”.
If it broke a prop shaft, it may be up.
Great props for that style rig.
And yes, pixs please.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

This boat sounds amazing! Can’t wait to see some pics! #MercSpeed gave you best links. If you are in short budget, you can try Ballistic. They are designed for V6 outboards, but on your V8 will not disappoint. They have it also in 4 blades looking to match at more powerful heads as your V8.
I will not be surprised if once you find a ballistic running better than a top quality prop!
be-careful with them, they have thin blades!

Here are a few Pics. of my 1986 220 Sport Baha and Johnson GT 3.6 outboard, it is mounted with a Gil marine mount, very unique. Boat is all original, upholstery is like new as is the rest of the boat. You can see it is the exact hull that they would put the IO in. With the help of the Gil Marine mount, it is a pretty easy adaptation for the outboard. The motor is mounted pretty high, from what I can see the center bullet on the lower unit is about even with the bottom of the boat. The lower unit has been modified with a bobs lower water pickup, and the cavatation plate has been lengthened and curved down. The fellow I got it from said it ran about 80 on GPS. The boat had a four blade Renegad prop on it, but the pitch is unknown, I think that is an OMC prop ?

Hello #Jamsteel! Your boat looks absolutely beautiful!! I love how the engine and Gill’s look! That V8 sounds like hell! If mine, I straight would go to chopper or cleavers!
I will be following the thread to see what will be your choice and performance!
Javier.

Very cool!
Same as what I remember seeing yrs ago.
Yes that prop is an OMC.
Check it’s diameter.
I think it’s only 13 1/2”.
If the motor is that high, it may not like that prop.
Try it for sure but you may need more dia being that high.
The Raker I mentioned above is 14 1/2”.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Nice find! I hope the new prop shafts are readily available. I know the gear sets were difficult to get 10 years ago.
My choices to try would be a 27p Mirage or Tempest prop for top end or a 26p/28p Bravo1 for all round use. A 28p over hub cleaver would be another possibility to try but it will most likely have alot of torque on the wheel! The gear ratio should be 1.76. Love this model. Looked at one used years ago. The V8 was going to need rebuilt, and I didn’t have the funds to handle that at the time. A few years later I could not find one, so I bought a 210 Sunsport with a 350 Mag and kept it for 6 years. Basically the same bull, different deck. Great boat.
