I was at my machinists, hanging from the ceiling and wall I guess. That is his set up. He holds some pretty ridiculous tolerances with this rig.

So I found this and bought it, I don't know much about it but it was a good deal. It seems like it has almost never been used, came with new tooling and everything.

Blake, Thats a sweet machine right there. Check / change the gear case oil, cuz everybody makes one go whirrrrrrrrclick in gear .. at least once ..
Oil up the main shaft, screw shaft and run it up and down a few times, and be sure to fill the little tea-pot reservoirs. Grand ole machines need to stay wet ..

I'm curious to see which micrometer and tool (bit) holder they used on that era Van Norman.
To me Van Norman's are red 777 models. Peterson tools were a blue/gray color and (dont quote me on this) used Kwik-Way parts. Been a while since I heard the story, but if I remember correctly, in the end they all kind of merged together. Just couldn't compete with Asia.

    Beautiful machine.
Not familiar with that one,The imported Peterson(Kansas Instruments) is a copy of the Van Norman 777S,interchangable parts. Not like yours, which i think is a newer machine. My 777S4 was built in 1936,refitted and works great, although I use a Kwik-Way FN most of the time.
Congrats, now you just need to make a table,Chris

Thanks for the kinds words, its a relief hearing from 2 experienced machinists that my equipment is good. I was going to call Van Norman and see if they had any more info on this machine, such as year made etc.

What do you guys figure, make my own table, or look for one? I've been watching that auction for a while in hopes of the table being sold separately but I suspect it maybe never had a table.

I'm pretty sure I stole this thing too, I'm into it for $2220 CAD, or about $1740 US, taxes freight everything.

Do you guys know what that other motor is for? A spare motor, or something else? I should take a better picture of the driveshaft, there is a big machined wheel of some sort on it. I haven't had time to really investigate anything yet other than ripping the crate open.

    Blake

I paid $5500.00 for mine. Bar and table. I looked at some other stuff he had, wanting to make a package deal. He told the young man helping him, put this in his truck. He can have it weather he buys anything or not .. I never said another word, just paid him. He didn't need the money, just wanted everything gone.
What he gave me was a Kwik-Way SVS-2 Valve resurface machine .. it was worth almost as much as the bar. Someone broke the plastic cover and never cleaned it since new, other than that ..

Without seeing the wheel, and going by the bag laying next to it .. my S.W.A.G. would be that it could be a bit lapping tool ..

Here's a couple more pictures. There's some smaller cutters and other stuff in little sealed bags, I don't want to open that all up until I find this machine's final resting place.
