1984 Evinrude 150 Performance
I just picked up a rebuilt 150 with 60ish hrs. I know the shop that did it and have bought a few motors in the past with all good experiences so I know and trust their work. my old 82 merc 2.0 150 bit the dust a few weeks ago. I wanted to stick with a merc since boat is rigged for it already, but I got a nice deal on the Rude. I have searched the site and i'm probably being an idiot and missing something, but was curious....is there any simple things for this motor to increase the ponies at all? Some say that year it's the same as a 175, 200, 235, etc, just swap this swap that. However the book doesn't seem to agree. It's going on the back of 1984 Champion 18' SuperV. will be set at 3.5" below the pad where a champ runs best. I don't have a prop for it yet either but heard a raker is a good place to start. I know my hull loves a 175 but I just couldn't pass up the deal on a clean rebuilt motor for what I got it for.
If there's a ton of threads on here about this (and I'm sure there are), I clearly didn't find them so don't be too hard on me! I've posted on here only a handful of times!
Thanks in advance.

Bubble back swap, carbs and intake stuffers. If you do some searching on here you will find what you need.

The 84 150 is a 149 cub engine which is different from the 235 with the bubble back and does not have the mounts for the exhaust stuffers; The 84 235 is also 160 cubic inches. The exhaust porting is different from the 200 as are the heads and carbs. IMO on todays fuel leave it alone and enjoy.

Maybe a slight head cut / a little extra compression. That’s all I’d do . Hf…
