Trim assembly removal...1998 Merc 250 EFI

I'm trying to replace the trim motor on a 98 Merc 250 efi. As expected one of the hold down screws was salted in and broke. I'm now trying to get the pump assembly off. The cross through pin on the top main ram also broke when removing. I can't get to the back to drive it forward. With the head off the cross pin can it be driven backward? Any other tips in getting the pump assembly off? Thanks.

At a very minimum , the starboard side transom bracket needs to come off.
A cherry picker with a lifting eye goes a long way in keeping you safe and your parts from being twisted / broken / etc.

When you say the back do you mean the carb side of the engine?
If you take the engine off the boat you might be able to punch the "trilobe" pin out from under the steering...
But yes in theory you can drive it the other way with the head off, just make sure its a clean cut because you dont want it getting stuck halfway
Do you have cats paw bar to grab the head and yank it out like a nail?
I don't know which way Mercury put the trilobe pin in from the factory
I might have some trim parts if you need them...
