    Cool Chrimmas shopping

Have you started? I am about done!

So far I bought my son, step son, and my double X brother in law (my X wife's X husband ) "Let's go Brandon" T shirts.

Son and step son, since they both are hunters... this.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WD44RTG?tag=rch0a-20

    Me? One of these:

    And one of these:

    https://www.bitgohobby.com/

I have fallen in love with foam RC planes. They are so resilient... And even if you crash them.. Tooth picks and glue will put them back together.

I am finishing this one up, fixing to do a maiden. https://www.bitgohobby.com/ is where I bought them from. They do take more work than Horizon, FMS, or other foamies to put together. You have some gluing to do, placement of decals... But they are relatively cheap.

I’ve seen those foam planes fly, there pretty impressive, I have one in my shop that I found on a roof, it’s a jet.
My neighbor flys them every Sunday. He has all types including helicopters.

55 years ago I use to build them out of Balsawood and paper and then use dope on the wings they also had Monokote. Back then we use to have two colors on the radio antenna, nowadays I guess they don’t do that at all from what my neighbor tells me. Back then we had gas, or maybe it was nitro engines,no battery power. Yours look like gas powered.

I have a hobby zone carbon cub foamy that is mostly hot glue and packing tape at this point haha. I also picked up a foam P-51 to get into something a bit faster and more acrobatic. On the maiden flight it was super tail heavy and uncontrollable, I was lucky to get it on the ground in one piece. I guess I need to do more work on the balance. The boat had all my attention this summer.

That one looks a bit to gone for me. Some planes stick around for a long time and you can get parts for... Others a couple years and you have servos, ESC, and a motor to put on something else.

My first foamy.. Horizon S Cub. Started out as 3S, changed the ESC to a higher amp and 4S and put a real prop on it. APC glass fiber. They have so many different pitches and diameters it will make your head swim.

Also added the flap servo and tundra tires off a Carbon Cub. It will fly straight up now...

I also build foam board kits.. Give me a razor knife and an hot glue gun... Look out!

RC planes are definitely much cheaper than flying real planes.

At one of our local city parks in the morning, there are several guys flying foam RC planes.
And a couple of dudes also have the foam Wings.

And they dog fight each other, by hitting the other's Wing in flight. Than they go retrieve the down Wing, and fix it, if needed. Now that is "resilient".

Here are some Wings similar to theirs.

There's a few decent parks around to fly at, Ken. Too bad the one across the street from you isn't bigger.

I bought my Trex in '08. At the time it was a state of the art 3D Carbon frame, blades, alloy blade grips, and even a drive shaft tail. I think with the gyro, metal gear digital servos, and RX I had about a grand in it. I built it myself, and even being quite complex, I had it together in about two nights....?

After a few crashes, I went to the belted tail, plastic tail rotors, glass fiber rotor blades... I have a spare head and tail assembly complete... so it won't take much to get it going after a crash. Also modified a set of 600 landing gear, wider and longer, and less likely to tip over.

My problem is when I let it get a bit too far away, and get disoriented?.... And you might as well turn off the TX at that point.. One thing that got me, you had to hold it in a bank turn. You put it there, you constantly had to add correction as it would want to over bank. That took a good bit or practice just to maintain a constant circle and altitude.

I did get better and it flew better with a higher rotor speed. They have several pinion gears available. It got my heart beating for sure. Planes are easy, unless you are doing aerobatics and crazy stuff!

They DO make a 3 axis gyro/receiver, that has an "oh sh!t" mode... Long as you aren't too close to the ground. Just like the newer plane RXs.

I have two planes with GPS. You can put them in "idle" mode and they will fly in a circle and maintain altitude, while say you are getting your FPV camera and googles lined out.... It also has a boundary function where if you get to far away, it will take over and fly back to you... Has a land me function too, but I haven't tried that one... LOL!

Oh, here is one crash... I got to where I had a cache of parts hanging on pegs..
