Just before the corner the four boats to the inside of Jackhammer were fighting for two lanes side by side, two years ago at this race two boats came close to each other and blew over in perfect unisons, the boat that blew over made the corner but once in Jackhammers wake It leaped up with only one motor in the water while turning It corkscrewed, I understand It's racing but when all you see is water spraying your wind shield many boats backed down but not all.
The 2 heat Idea to limit boats sounds solid... That's why it's called Racing
We have invented the world; WE see

No need in reinventing the wheel. Just enforce the rules that are already on the books.

Point the black flag .. "Hey you , dumb **** you just crashed three of the six boats you cut in front of .. your out !

I'll bet a canoli that if they did that ... everybody would be on their best behavior

    Race Course Infractions :

    19. Failure to maintain your lane in turn one, will result in disqualification, a second offense could mean barring from competition for the remainder of said year, or following year. (Example 1: Boat A has a poll position of Lane 4, but takes the Turn in Lane 1). (Example 2: Boat has poll position of Lane 2 going into the turn, but cuts/dives under Boat B and comes out of the Turn in Lane 1.)

    Randy Swears ..

"Tough day for the #33 PlayTradez Offshore Racing Team..We had a good start and coming into turn #1 we had a collision with Team Allen Lawncare.. The boat took a hard hit on the Throttlemans side but our Doug Wright withstood the impact and kept us safe.. The boat will need some TLC back at the factory and will be ready to run for next season.
I want to thank all those who were part of S-33 PlayTradez for Key West 2021. My partner and Driver Bryan Marquardt , Our Sponsors , Crew and Friends and Doug Wright and Shaun Torrente for building us a fast and reliable 32 DW. This has been a memorable week of Racing. Not the results we were looking for but we will take the experience and build for the 2022 season . "

That was Brent's first race steering he's the good looking guy on the left

Todd has DW making a 32 FT. mold of Todd's design

So the future is bright, just have to keep it right side up, those corners are dangerous

the extra three feet is going to be welcomed

now that Todd has all that Booty that ear to ear smile is permeant.

    In APBA in my day:

    The start:

Boats shall maintain their lane from start line to first pin of first turn.

    Overlap:

Overtaking boats shall not cause overtaken boats to change course until at least two (I think) boat lengths past overtaken boat.

    Max boats per heat:

    Twelve.
    Beyond that forced elimination/qualifying heats.

I dont think the UIM had boat limits.

Based on pix’s, looked like gnarly conditions for that size boats.
Very cool and glad everyone is OK

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Conditions weren’t bad at all (at least compared to normal key west conditions)

I agree lanes need to be followed. I don’t agree on limiting boat count.

everyone watching waits for super stock. It’s the best race of the day. The most boats and the closest racing. Most other classes (except for super cat) have maybe three boats.

I say watch for lane infractions and let them race. The more boats the better. I can’t wait to see 20 super stock boats rolling down the stretch between 2 and 3……going to be a epic.

Yea .. no ... not enough upstairs to hack the internet. Nor enough common sense to keep the "dark side" to himself.
The result : He invents (infects) the blue screen's we see ..

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you show up to a NHRA or IHRA track and plan on going 9.99 or quicker , not only must your whip be inspected .. but you must pass a physical . Then it takes 6 runs to (maybe) get your license. Three short squirts one night. Then two more of the same and a full run quicker than 9.99 on another night.
All six have to be witnessed and signed off by two licensed drivers of equal or quicker status as well as a track official .
Just because you can afford it ... doesn't mean you have the ability to compete. They won't stop you from practicing at a slower speed until you are ready to compete , but on the same token .. they won't turn loose a green monster.
It's not fool proof, but goes a long way to provide peace of mind that you can go anywhere in the country and know the guy in the other lane is reasonably safe .

Skimming thru the APBA OPA rule books it looks to be more of a pay for this and pay for that .. OK , good to go .

Three boat classes .. lot's of room to make a mistake that no one will even notice, let alone enforce any "don't come back till you can drive" rules. I'm sure they are of the mindset ... we are lucky to get what we have .. lets not run anybody off.

Twenty boat classes ... with flagrant rules violations and lack of enforcement, well we all know what can and does happen .
Nothing wrong with having qualifying or heat races on Saturday of "one day" races and the same for the first day of multi-day races , after that you start where you finished the day before .. even if it's on the second row. Better than being sent home for being slow or suffering broken parts during qualifying or the race the day before.

Racing will always be dangerous, but I would think the sanctioning bodies can come up with better remedies than "build stronger boats" ..

With all the computer technology, they could put a lane grid up over the start vids and into the 1st turn to illustrate the lane keep (or not) and show video evidence why you were being penalized for lane crowding.

That is not a correct statement. DW will not be making any boat from Todds boat. It's an LCB, Cougar hull. We are looking to build a new boat for the next season. We have to wait and see what the changes in the class will be.
