heads would need tha cc's checked since they have some age on 'em.. have ya checked comp/leak down?.. carbs could be one of several.. should have a WH XX number stamped on tha top, back.. some slipped through without a number though.. probably 15's but could be a coupla different ones as tha slosh tubes and baffles (if there) could be added ta any of 'em.....

my guess is he had a high performance oval port or bridgeport and wasted tha rotating assy.. found a good production 200 rotator then put tha easy good stuff on it.............. hi perf. oval port and production 200 rotators are same in those years.. one is painted and one is not................

Congratulations! That compression is absolutely perfect it is what it came with from the factory. Sounds like your motor is in good shape inside. Also, those 22 carburetors are very good ones. This motor should do a great job for you. What are you going to hang it on?

Down the road, you might want to have the heads shaved to raise the compression up about 20 points. Will make a difference in the mid range. Also, it is always a good idea to put in fiberglass reeds like those from Chris Carson. Will smooth out the bottom end and make it a little stronger in the mid. The most important thing, they do not damage the engine if one of them breaks and passes through the cylinders.

wow thank you for the fast response, and knowledge, well i got the engine because i was looking for a merc 150, however an old friend of mine had this and told me it was a mod vp... i felt bad because i knew it wasnt but took it off his hands anyway as he was starving for cash... my boat is a 16' Tahiti, which currently has an evinrude 140 looper on it... i know the 200 would be way over kill for a 16' hull but man would it be awesome. anyway, do you know what size jets should be in each carb? also, is there a way to determine what heads are on this block?

Yes. Those are pretty typical for carburetors for that motor. I am going to say that the heads are stock because your compression is about the factory ratio. When you start shaving the heads, the compression will go up to 135 or 145 or even above.
