    1989 eliminator daytona 23

Just wondering when I look at 89 daytona 23, some have flat front deck with straight lines back to cockpit from pickle forks and other have raised circular deck. I had one
and it was the flat version.

Hydroskreamin is the resident expert on 23’ eliminators. I think he sent me the attached pic showing both decks in the brochure. He did research them but I can’t remember his conclusion.

I think Hydro has put just a touch more effort into the 23' Eliminator then most for sure. I am anxious to see how it runs after changing his propulsion menu from "shrimp to pork".

Here’s a picture of my boat alongside my friend’s boat, mine is on the left. Mine is a 1987 WI build, the other is a 1989 CA build.

I’ve talked to Bob Leach, Tony Chiaramonte, and Kenny Smith from Eliminator about this and other 23 Daytona quirks, and none of them really remember why two decks, other than Tony mentioned one was a “ski deck”, and one was supposed to be for twin engine application only and the other for twin or single, even though a few triple 2.4L engine boats were built.

Nearest I can tell, the flat deck was California-built only, and the Shawano, WI plant built only tall deck boats. I have never seen an example of a flat deck from the WI plant, but I’ve seen both from CA, but not after 1988-1989. So I’m wondering if they either shipped the tall deck mold to WI for building 23’s there, and the “new” deck stayed in CA, or if there were two tall deck molds, one for CA and one for WI, and the newer deck was more popular in CA. I’ll be talking to Kenny soon and I’ll ask him.

As far as the hulls, everything I’ve seen is they’re the same, except this particular CA build has a very short notch. It’s the only one I’ve seen with a notch, so I’m wondering if it’s factory or not. That being said, it’s only a sample of one to say if the CA hull mold was notched, or if there was an insert for the mold. EngineerMike’s does not have the notch if I recall; he can chime in with regards to that.

Tracer’s Toy, are you thinking of getting another one? You know you don’t have to wait 16 years between posts, right? I hope I shed some light on your question.

Nice, first year I had mine I had a Mariner 200 on it, too much boat for motor would only do about 70 mph. Second year I upgraded to two Mercury 200, a little better to about 85-90 depending
    on day.

Hydroskreamin do you think twin 450 R 's would be overkill, just wondering.

If it’s your money, then of course not! Actually, I think a pair of 300R’s would be the most I’d be willing to put on for twins.

My belief is that one 450R is plenty…
