    Single vs Tandem Axle Trailer

    Thoughts?

I have a single currently, I feel like my tandems and triples of the past rode smoother.....I don't live on the water so I tow a lot and was thinking about switching to a tandem.

Worth the $$? (I need to repaint my trailer and get new fenders as it is, so the only added cost will be extra springs and another axle).

Loved the tandem for towing and looks but hated it for moving around in shop. Usually took off a set of tires when in shop for any length of time to make it easier to move by hand.

That's really the only negative I can come up with, other than cost. Well, and the cutting and grinding and welding.

Can't forget the cutting and grinding and welding. My favorite parts.

Tandem will give you a little piece on mind when trailering on the highway should you get a flat tire. Still have 3 and less impact on handling till you get off to the side of the road.

I would agree that if you really tow a lot tandem is the way to go. I always wondered if you could put those sleds on one of the axles when in the garage to make pushing it around easier. I sometimes have to make a tight turn for my tandem and I put an large sisal rug under the axles and they will pivot the rug making it ok to turn.

Tandems can fix high tongue weight issues too.

old thread but I did the same thing , I had a single blew a bearing lost the whole wheel on the interstate , it never hit the road again until I converted it to a tandem ………. If u convert and balance is right u won’t have problem moving it around, if I hold my tongue down 2” above the ground the back tires come off the ground and can pivot to move around if need be

Never though to do that. I guess common sense is not so common
