Can paint be removed from gelcoat?
My brother and his wife just got a used GS. The orange trim looks like paint. Could it be removed?
Of course the paint may be there to cover something

Can the previous owner provide any answers - meaning Enamel , acrylic enamel , base clear , and reason for the respray .
I think if it's Enamel - or spray bomb you might get away thinners or reducers and wipe to see if you pick up color - that's a good sign ! It will be a commitment . Give me a call and we can discuss options on the problem .
Hope this helps

Paint stripper works apparently. Won’t harm the gel but removes the paint. Test a small spot first of course. I had a boat with clear coat painted over the gel that was peeling and i found a few threads on the topic here using search. I never did it myself but there’s good info on it regarding what brand stripper etc. Good luck

They use stripper to get the paint off Corvettes, but I don’t know what the gel looks like after. Corvettes of course get repainted

If it doesn’t damage the glass, it shouldn’t damage the gel. Both are polyester
I’d surely test on a small spot first thoughHydrostream dreamin

We need to spend some time looking closely to see what is gel and what is paint. There are pinstripes at the edges of the orange trim. The pinstripes are not in the gel and make it hard to do a simple finger edge test to check for the edge of paint.
Sorry, no history is available
