Block Identification-2.5
Need some help,
purchased a motor from a respectable person who advised that he was selling a 2002 2.5 200. He provided the serial and most of what I am finding in Mercury parts diagrams advise that the motor is supposed to have oring heads. The motor has gasket heads and no block deck is even. Doesn’t appear to be milled. The motor is supposed to be a 200L, 20” shaft carburetor fishing motor. It has wmv carbs on it and FF on the front block half. The carb parts# comes back to 150 carb.. not sure which WMV series. Question, did Mercury still use gasket headed powerheads in 2002 or is this a Frankenstein motor. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if is FF block, can anyone tell me the difference between the promax block and this one in the way of porting. Mine has the WMV carbs, but is there a preferred carb for this setup. Looking for top end out of a triton tr21, weight around 1300.Last edited by Kdybalski; 10-12-2021 at 12:05 PM.

FF would not be a 150. I have no idea about the numbers on the WMV carbs and what numbers went on what motors...but you can measure the venturi and see if its big enough to be a 200 carb.
Do you have a serial off the block itself? If you post that up we can tell you the year and model of the block and what heads it originally had on it.

The serial tag on the block is not readable. I have not found any other usable numbers or dates on the block. The FF is readable, but not finding dates in the block. The block was not an oring head block as the deck is level for the gasket heads. I will measure the Venturi on the carbs and see how they compare. Any other suggestions of where to look. The one center block plus has no serial number on it as well. Thanks in advance for any help.

"provided serial number".. what is it???
switch box or cdm electrics?.. 2000 up "production motor" o-ring and electronic.. somewhere on tha block, close to tha FF stamp, there is a build date stamped on tha block half.. may be on tha flange.. may be at base of number two cylinder.. will be m/d/yr. 1/8" numbers "hand stamped".. might be hard ta find but its there...
on linkage side of carbs there is a hand stamped number.. will be wmv-xx 1, wmv-xx 2, wmv-xx 3
that block number is associated with tha "sport jet" blocks also...Last edited by tlwjkw; 10-12-2021 at 04:05 AM.

Thanks for the response. CDM electronics. I will look closer on the front half for date codes. The carbs just have WMV, no designation. See attached carb pics.

Tommy u is right they do have!!! all wmvs from the first ones have a set of numbers stamped on the throat flange on the linkage side of the carbs 200 are or should be if 2002 wmv 18 they should read wmv18-1 for the top 18-2 center and las 18-3 if earlier they will be wmv 5 any thing else is not 200, ive cut plenty of oring blocks down .044 thousandths to accept gasket heads so its doable (you cannot tell by looking) take the breather off so you can see it

i have found no serial numbers on most blocks i rebuilt through the years some hot rods have them stamped on front and back of block halves but not all mid section tags are usually gone for what ever reasons if its a ff block it will not be a 150
