    Hi Matt!

    Thanks for the contact!

    Exhaust chest mods. Specifically removing the divider wall to make the exhaust a 6into one instead of 3into 2 and 2into 1.

    Project update: have 3 complete gt200s and extra power head. Also e-tec front crank covers. Going to do some experimenting on the dyno next spring.

    The boat is on order for next spring from Rage in new York. Svl poker run edition. This is the first one of the model to be set up for outboards.

    Looper exhaust chest mods is an interesting question that has not been discussed a lot on here as I recall. There is definitely power to be had in the adapter plate (i.e. need to think of the cast-in exhaust chambers and adapter as one inter-related system). Dave Bush has done extensive work to exhaust chests but it involves a ton of cutting and welding - not sure you need to go that far (yet anyway). You can get over 400hp without cutting it all apart, especially since you are starting with open-deck blocks which have better exhaust "internal headers" to start with. As usual, I will defer to Racer if he chimes in.

    LOL....my projects (emphasis on the plural.....)...juggling them and my day job is a constant battle....new transom in the Checkmate is almost done, an ETEC 250HO is 75% ready to hang on it.....V8s are getting lonely......that's only half of them lol

    Please express my sympathy to your lonely v8s. You can reassure them after their hibernation that they will be at the 700+ mark each...

    What you do or can do with success (in exhaust chest) will be determined in part by the weight you need to push, target RPM, fuel and expected engine life. Matt is correct that these engines can be built to over 400HP with out cutting the exhaust apart. While I have not removed the center divider I have found when you get them too open they suffer low end power loss. The proper tools going up inside the chest to remove all the casting edges helps them in all RPM ranges. It is also important to have the correct work done to the adapter plate.

    IMO people outside of Second Effort have found a lot more power than what they were getting at the time of there closure, I bought the dyno's they had and they had several recorded runs on them. People that I know have gone beyond 400 on these engines are Dave Bush, Monty racing, Freddie Webb. I have personally done it with factory front and the plastic carbs and with different EFI set ups.

    The limited edition's in these vids have a smoothed out exhaust tone at upper rpm. It resembles what a tuned 6 into 1 header would sound like, no cackling. What I'm trying to figure out is how did SE get these 3.0's to sound like this? :

    All of the other 3.0's (even highly moded ones as well) have a more crispy/raspy sound similar to what a smaller header/collector would create.

    That is the standard looper exhaust tone when they have open exhaust, Holes in the lower unit or an exhaust snout in the mid. SE limited edition engines had nothing done to the block exhaust they were light cowl and cc'd the heads.

    So I am thinking that there is some more work done to the motors in the videos that are sporting the LE\SE badges then just exhaust snout and heads. Many its just me but I think there is quite a difference in this sound. You might thing I have a strange fetish, but I am trying to duplicate that sound.😀🚤

    With a Taylor mid mine sounds like it is turning 10k at 7k and it is a bone stock powerhead running 90 psi compression. The 90 degree loopers sound wicked with exhaust above the water.

    Agreed! In not knocking other outboard brands but listening to random gargling sounds ain't cool. Do you have any videos or pics to share of your Taylor setup?
